What Should You Do When A Chiropractic Patient Refers?

W

When a new chiropractic patient is referred in, do you thank the referrer?

How?

Do you call them?

Do you send a thank-you note?

…or do you wait until the next time they come in to thank them? …Assuming you remember to 🙂

None of these, in my opinion, are the appropriate response.

Something to remember:

When someone refers a patient to you, chances are it took a bit of energy to do it.

They first had to defend the profession.

Then they had to reveal a little about their health history and their experience in your office.

Then they had to, most likely, answer a handful of questions.

Bottom line, it took some doing to get the person that they cared about to see the Chiropractor that they cared about: YOU!

So if it’s legal in your state/circumstance, consider doing a better job thanking them after the fact.

Maybe spend $25-50 and send them a thank you gift!

Make a big deal out of it because it is a big deal.

How do you feel when you do something nice for someone and don’t even get a proper thank you?

Certainly most of us do nice things without an expectation of anything in return but it sure feels good to be thanked and appreciated.

Don’t you think?

What’s a new patient worth to you?

$250?

$1000?

More?

How many advertising dollars would it have cost you to attract a new patient on your own?

I know.

It would have cost you $300 or more… Not to mention the fact that you probably have to attract 2-3 for the same quality as a patient who was referred to you.

That means more consultations, more exams, and a lot more time.

Most Chiropractors get referrals but not nearly as many as they should.

…and it’s partially because they can do a much better job saying thank you.

  • This is so true. Most chiropractors take existing patient referrals for granted. When you reward them for their actions it shows you really care and encourages them to refer more new patients to you.
