This article is for any chiropractor, medical doctor, dentist, or therapist/provider that is having trouble getting paperwork done and being productive…while having a life!
Here’s something I did that increased my productivity by at least 25%. I no longer have an office for myself. Yes, my staff has a place to go and work, but I do not. I do not have a desk, a chair, or a desktop computer. I got rid of my own home office many, many months ago.
Here’s what that has done for me:
First, I don’t have a place to go. I have no place to make a mess. I have no place to hide out.
Instead, I have my laptop, the public library, my conference room, or many of the coffee shops in the area.
I’ve become a lot more project oriented. I do not spend time watching TV, surfing the web, or having the feeling of working unless I truly am.
The lines between work and play are less blurred. I do what I have to do then change environments and change gears.
I think more, do less, and get a lot more done.
How does this relate to a medical or chiropractic office? Well as you know, you make money treating patients. You don’t make money sitting in a chair. Removing this down time might stimulate you to cluster your work hours and do paperwork only at designated times.
You can now go out and build your list, creating valuable relationships, and pay more attention to living and being.
Consults and “report of findings” / “Recommended Action Plans” can be done in the exam room. Paperwork can be done in a room that is not designated as your office so that papers must get filed.
Clutter is removed and the mind remains clear.
So, consider getting rid of YOUR office. You’ll feel lighter, you’ll be forced to think, and you’ll be a lot happier. It’s magical!
